this is the first thing I made jess, and the only thing he hasn’t lost.

I had been having a fairly sucky, doubtful, what the fuck am I doing with my life kind of time and decided to chuck everything in and spend some quality time on the dole. I can’t remember just where I got the idea, but knew that Jess liked that strong, graphic Russian look, so I printed this Rodchenko picture off the internet and set to work.

I was broke at the time (turns out I am fundamentally unable to live on what the government sees fit to give me), and think that materials, most creatively aquired, cost me about 10 NZD all up.

It took me two weeks of fiddly and frustrating work, I really had no idea what I was doing and there was much ripping out of hair and shouting at the cat (sorry phil, r.i.p.) *.

But the finished product was better than I had hoped. Jess just stared at it and stroked it for the longest time, he seemed genuinely touched, and has been using it for the last four years.

*just to clarify, my shouting didn’t kill him. the liver cancer gets credit for that.
