I have just done something I have never done before in my life.

I lay underneath a beach umbrella for an entire day, only getting up to swim, drink beer or eat. I read a whole book and a half (One Good Turn - excellent, perfect beach read and She - good fun and unintentionally hysterical), and finished another bit on the bitch.

We went to Shimoda, more specifically Kisami-Ohama Beach, where we have been one time before, verrry long ago with K+D and Martine. This time was less typhoony. We camped at the Marine Side campground, which was nice and not too crowded, despite it being Obon. It does have a creek that runs alongside it though, so be warned, crabs will scuttle under your tent at night, and it will smell a bit like poo during the day. We ate at the haphazardly themed 70’s Bronx Dinner (yes dinner) where the portions were huge, and service cheery, and the Paradise Cafe, where the food was mediocre and the service shithouse.

The best place to eat is though, is Marley Cafe next to the beach side parking lot. We had breakfast there twice and this is what you get for 1200 yen (except the yoghurt, Jess was still processing the power of the Bronx Hamburg and had a light breakfast)

It was a blissful, blissful way to spend a couple of days. I so rarely do nothing on holiday, I save slothfulness for at home time, on holidays we do our best to exhaust ourselves with activities, so it felt really strange to lie there and have naps without guilt. I kept looking at the time and being shocked that only 30 minutes had past since the last time i had looked and in that time i had napped, slept, swam and drunk a beer.

It was good fun.

For everyone.

Jess looks so stoked on that gratin or cheesy baked dish. Hope you talked to that hottie in the red, blue and white budgie smugglers.

In that pic, Jess’ spirit has been crushed by Bronx Hamburg. That gratin is my dinner. See that ENORMOUS white plate behind it? That was his dinner.
